This excursion is a circular route starting and ending at the Aventura Motor Vera HQ at the BP petrol station on the main road between Garrucha and Vera in the province of Almeria. (Ctra. Vera-Garrucha Km 1.8).
This route takes us along the ‘Playa de Quitapellejos’ to ‘Playa de la Fabrica del Duro’, then along the roadway until we reach the Miners village of ‘Arteal’, which was re-established in 1945, and then along the Rambla (Dry Riverbed) de la Muleria to village of Los Lobos, then start to climb the ‘Barranco (Ravine) de Jalosa’ where the mining revolution of the ‘Sierra Almagrera’ began in about 1825 with the discovery lead containing small traces of silver.
Branching off onto the ‘Barranco de Chapparel’ you will pass some of the richest mines in the Sierra, which can be seen in the barranco below. Staying on the ‘Barranco de Chapparel’ we will pass the ‘Aliados’ mine, the ‘Republica’ mine and end up at the ‘Encantada’ mine where we will stop to look at the impressive steam powered winch.
This winch is the oldest existing one of its kind in Spain, dating from 1873. It was rediscovered in 2002 and then refurbished to its current condition. The mine shaft is 250m deep and was used to remove the materials which were then crushed and washed before being sent down the mountain to the foundries.
When you have had your fill of the views, we travel down the mountain, following the same route, taking us back to the Aventura Motors HQ.
Comfortable and suitable clothes that you do not mind getting dusty, dirty or muddy. Depending on the route and time of year, we will pass through very dry and dusty areas, but we may also pass through areas of water and muddy conditions.
Drivers must be over 25 years of age and hold a valid B1 driving licence for over 5 years. It is a legal requirement in Spain to carry photo ID, national identity card (TIE) or passport along with your driving license. You will need to provide us with a copy of your valid driving license prior to taking part in the excursion.
Make sure you bring some high factor sunscreen, as it can be very hot, and you will be under these conditions for several hours.
We will take care of the rest.
