This excursion is a circular route starting and ending at the Aventura Motor Vera HQ at the BP petrol station on the main road between Garrucha and Vera in the province of Almeria. (Ctra. Vera-Garrucha Km 1.8).
Similar to the Ruta Sierra Almagrera this route takes us along the ‘Playa de Quitapellejos’ to ‘Playa de la Fabrica del Duro’, then along the roadway until we reach the Miners village of ‘Arteal’, and then along the Rambla de la Muleria to village of Los Lobos, then start to climb the ‘Barranco de Jalosa’. Los Lobos village played an important part through the areas mining history and got its names from the multitude of wolves that used to live in the Sierra.
Branching off left onto the ‘Barranco Hospital de Tierras’ the opposite side of the mountain to the ‘Barranco de Jalosa’ this winding route takes us up into the higher points of the sierras.
We can still see the Anima mine atop the mountain as we climb a rugged path passing the ‘Independent’ Mine, the ‘Virgin del Carmen’ mine to end up at the ‘Guzman’ mine. This mine has a shaft reported to be 400m deep, so don’t get too close as it is not covered. You will also see the building that were accommodation for the miners and there was a small hospital in the ‘Independent’ mine just a stone’s throw down the valley.
Once we have finished here, we will head back down the rocky track and then continue our journey up to the ‘Mirador de Aguilas’ (Aguilas viewpoint) that has spectacular 180-degree views of the Med, extending from Mojacar to Aguilas.
When you have had your fill of the views, we travel down the mountain, following the same route, taking us back to the Aventura Motors HQ.
Comfortable and suitable clothes that you do not mind getting dusty, dirty or muddy. Depending on the route and time of year, we will pass through very dry and dusty areas, but we may also pass through areas of water and muddy conditions.
Drivers must be over 25 years of age and hold a valid B1 driving licence for over 5 years. It is a legal requirement in Spain to carry photo ID, national identity card (TIE) or passport along with your driving license. You will need to provide us with a copy of your valid driving license prior to taking part in the excursion.
Make sure you bring some high factor sunscreen, as it can be very hot, and you will be under these conditions for several hours.
We will take care of the rest.
